In 1590 Takamatsu castle was built by i 1590 Ikoma Chikamasa, who was the first feudal overlord of the Takamatsu Domain. The castle was run by the clanleader for 54 years. Afterwhich it was transfered to the Matsudaira-clan. The castle is one of the three water castles of Japan.
